Student Information
All students must have a violin available to them to practice and bring to each lesson. Recommendations can be provided to purchase or rent a violin, and a separate appointment may be setup to play and evaluate a violin of your choosing.

Please feel free to ask for additional recommendations or information regarding the materials listed below; and come to each lesson prepared, ready to practice and to have fun!

Materials for lessons:
Violin and Bow: Violins should be rented (since students will grow out of violins). The student should be measured by a teacher or a knowledgeable member of the music store staff. It is very important that your child play on the correct instrument size.
Shoulder Rest: A foam shoulder rest or a Kun or Wolf rest are a few of the more popular options for supporting the child’s instrument, but there are many styles on the market. We can test out different should rests to figure out which works best for your child.
Rosin: This should come with the rented instrument. If not, it will need to be purchased.
Tuner/Metronome: A smartphone app will work as well.

Optional materials for lessons:
Recording Device: You may take an audio or video recording. While I don’t require this, recording lessons is very useful.
Notebook: Parents may take notes during each lesson.

Materials for Home Practice:
The above items, plus…
Music Stand: This can be left at home for practice sessions.
Sheet Music: Suzuki Violin School Book with CD (or material that we agree upon) and supplemental material.
Practice Journal: we will fill this out so students understand what they are supposed to be practicing each week and how to go about practicing most effectively.
A mirror – to help monitor posture, hand shapes, and position.
